Equipment List

This is a quick list of what I recommend that you have on hand.  You may want other items as well.

Recommend Minimum of two hives per location but understand budgetary restrictions.  Here are some reasons.

Necessary equipment
  • Full suit:  full protection helps you relax, baggy fit so you can move
    • Baseball cap helps keep the veil from resting against your nose.
  • Hive tool:  Propolis is strong
  • Smoker:  calms the bees
  • Syrup feeder: many types available
  • Gloves:  a couple of different types
  • Duct tape: seal up gaps and tears
  • Sprayer for sugar syrup
  • Bucket of water
  • Hive of your choice
  • Entrance reducer

Necessary Supplies:
  • Pollen Patties
  • Sugar syrup (1:1 in spring/summer, 2:1 in fall)
  • Honey B Healthy or comparable

Recommended equipment and supplies 
  • 2 deeps and 3 mediums or 1 deep and 4 mediums
  • Dry pollen substitute
  • Frame rest
  • Robbing screen
  • Mouse guard
  • Mite treatment- Oxalic acid vaporizer, Formic acid, apivar
  • Extra bottom board, top cover and hive body to house a swarm.
